The student is expected to:
(A) express ideas orally based on knowledge and experiences; and(B) create visual and written material including pictures, maps, timelines, and graphs.

Lesson Overview

A brief summary of the lesson and the expected outcomes.

Overview

The students will read about and discuss famous black americans.  Using the information from the stories, videos and websites, the students will compare and contrast the people then with people now.   After the discussions, students will think about a dream they have for their community, their country, and their world.  Students will create a mobile "I Have a Dream..." and write about their dream .  Students will use a Kidspiration template to write the information from their mobile to make a class book to share with other classes.

The task reflects what people might actually do in the real-world; including real life issues, themes, and problems.

Activities

Students will:

1.  Listen to storybooks about Martin Luther King and discuss how his dream affected people throughout the country.  Discuss how when he shared his dream with others that it impacted the whole country.
2.  Watch video of Martin Luther King's life.
3.  Use Kidspiration to make a timeline of Martin Luther King's life.
4.  Discuss what Dr. King's dream was and write down dreams of students.
3.  Show citizenship as individuals by developing a personal dream to help our community.  Discuss how this could change our world.
 5.  Use dream mobile to draw and write about a dream for the community, the country, and the world.
6.  Using the mobile, present orally to the class.
7.  Use the digital camera to take pictures of the presentations and make a movie of them using movie maker.
