ยง115.32. Health 1, Grades 9-10 (One-Half Credit). (a) Introduction. (1) In health education, students acquire the health information and skills necessary to become healthy adults and learn about behaviors in which they should and should not participate. To achieve that goal, students will understand the following: students should first seek guidance in the area of health from their parents; personal behaviors can increase or reduce health risks throughout the lifespan; health is influenced by a variety of factors; students can recognize and utilize health information and products; and personal/interpersonal skills are needed to promote individual, family, and community health. (2) In Health 1, students develop skills that will make them health-literate adults. Students gain a deeper understanding of the knowledge and behaviors they use to safeguard their health, particularly pertaining to health risks. Students are taught how to access accurate information that they can use to promote health for themselves and others. Students use problem-solving, research, goal-setting and communication skills to protect their health and that of the community.

Description K-TSW be able to identify information and princpiles that lead to healthy lifestyle. C-TSW summarize the information and distinguish between good and bad choices in connection to their health and character. App-TSW determine good and bad choices that lead to a health lifestyle and organize the choices under a character trait that would most affect these choices. A-TSW examine and explain the traits and choices made in relation to a healthy lifestyle. S-TSW integrate their character choices into a healthy lifestyle in the areas previously discussed and develop a plan for healthier living. E-TSW evaluate and defend their choices in regards to the areas discussed, while assessing the level at which character play a part in these decisions. Character criteria: TSW analyze and examine the choices made in their lives to show how the six pillars of character influence the choices they have made so far in life and hypothesize choices based on their character for future in life.

Description Groups will be student selected with different degrees of understanding in each group. Classroom will be arranges in different areas (diet, drugs, etc) for individuals from each group to work on topics/research.

Concepts/TopicsThe students will learn to use the following skills during this assignment: prioritize and defend their choices work within a group for a common goal research skills

EBAMThis project will allow students the opportunity to look at their choices in life regarding, diet, drugs, alcohol and sexual activity and directly related their decision to their character. In turn, leading to a better basis and devised system to improve their level of health and length of life through healthier lifestyle choicesand improvement of character.

Performance TaskClasses will be divided into three groups(5-8 students). Each group will have one of three stances on healthy choices: negative choices, mainstream/nonjudgemental choices or positive choices. Groups will have three days to prepare a "news-report" style presentation on their assigned stance. The groups will address the areas of diet, drugs, alcohol, stress, sexual activity and how character can effect the choices made in connection with these. Each group will give three examples of choices that could be made, character traits related to choice and reason and altrnatives to making this choice.
