Essential Questions
Describe ways you can help others at Christmas time. Who do you think rings the bell in front of the stores at Christmas and why do you think they ring the bell. Collect photographs(magazine clippings)of things that you would like for Christmas, using only the amount of play money given to you. Compare your life during Christmas time to those children who do not have the money to buy gifts. Can you explain what you think those children feel like during this time of the year. Create a way to help children during the Christmas season. How does it make you feel to donate a gift to children who do not have anything. Are you a caring person, and how do you know? How effective do you think that your giving of gifts was.

Description K-Teacher will explain and introduce the history of the bell ringers and Sheriff Santa students will discuss characteristics of of the bell ringers and concept of Sheriff Santa. C-Predict what the children recieving the gifts will think when they open the gift you give. Cut out pictures of a toy or gift you would like to have using the dollar amount given to you. Is it easy to pick out a gift with only $2 as opposed to $40. App-What questions would you ask a bell ringer or Sheriff Santa if given the chance. A- Explain how this assignment shows character and what types of character are you showing. S-Imagine what it would be like to not get a gift for christmas and how would if make you feel. Do you think that it would make you appriciate your current life more. E- Assess and justify the gifts that you brought in and determine who they will help and how they will help. Discuss how the gift giving showed character, and what pillar(s) of Character it showed.

Description Learning Centers- allows the teacher to work in small groups to meet the needs of all level of students. Adjusted Questions- questions are adjusted to meet each student's level of ability. Tiered Learning- the teacher starts in small group with maximum instruction to decrease interaction as student masters the concept.

Technology (computers, handhelds, software applications, Internet) is used in a seamless fashion to promote student learning.

Technology Applications The students will use the internet to access information about bell ringers. The students will use Microsoft Front Page and Microsoft Paint. The students will use kidsperation to create illustrations.

Concepts/TopicsThe students will listen to information about bell ringers via computer. The students will describe what a bell ringer does. The students will find the meaning of a bell ringer and Sherriff Santa. The students will provide an example of character that goes along with the gift giving. The students will examine the meaning of gift giving. The students will identify the types of character they showed during the christam season. The student will plan out what type of gift they want to buy another child by looking through the add pages and bringing them into class to discuss what they chose. The students will discuss how they feel giving the gifts to Sheriff Santa, and how they would feel if they were receiving the gifts from Sherriff Santa. The students will ask Sherriff Santa questions about where the gifts go and who gets them.

EBAMThis lesson will be relevant to the students because at this time of the year they see bell ringers and santa's in the stores and around towns. Many of the students will come into contact with bell ringer or santa's. The students will be able to understand how the bell ringers show character to others and how they will be able to do the same. This is real world for a 5 years old because at this time they are very interested in Santa and toys. They see these people all around at this time of the year, making it a real world situation.

Performance TaskThe students will discuss daily what type of character they have shown during the season. We will take a picture of all the gifts and place it on the website. The students will also say how they feel about giving the gift and that will be posted on the web as well. The students will be able to identify the pillars of character. The students will collect and analyze the gifts the brought in by using and creating a graph. The students will use kidsperation to illusrate one of the pillars of CHaracter that they feel they are using by bring a gift. Then each student will use paint to create a book of Character Traits and share with the class. THe students will be able to recite the Character Traits Pledge.
